Palace of the Kings of Majorca, Perpignan's gem

Explore the Palace of the Kings of Majorca and its history.

The heart of the city of Perpignan houses a palace. Built in the 13th century by the King of Majorca, it was the centre of the short-lived kingdom amid the city, when Perpignan was still considered the economic, political and cultural heart of Medieval Mediterranean. At the start of the construction, it was still using a late Roman-style architecture, but slowly evolved after 1300 to finally showcase its Gothic nature.

Admire the impressive towers, including the high one used as the entrance and starting point of the visit, but also the Holy Cross chapel, adorned with a pink and blue marble door. The royal residence has also retained painted decors and is worth a look. From there, the view spreads out all the way to the Canigou mountain. You will undoubtedly be under the spell of the palace's splendour. Note that some animations take place all year long, in addition to the guided or free tours.
